Hi Bunnies !
I write this from Maine <3 a happy place. It feels like summer - An American Summer - but in a good way. There is a grumpy fisherman mumbling to himself on the dock out front. His beer belly getting in the way of his lobster cages. I can see jelly fish and a huge horsehoe crab in the water.
I look forward to eating as much seafood ( and fried food..) as I can in the next few days.
ANYWAYS, Here is what I loved last week:
Manor Rock
My friends, Kate + Jeremy, took us to Restaurant Manor Rock. I have had a desire to go since it opened- remembering that José, who previously worked at Gem, was now working there. I think we went there during the perfect patch of spring. Before full summer but at the edge of it. There is a sort of excitement to that time of eating. Perfect wine that tasted of the start of summer and strawberries, I can only imagine drinking this at this time. I am sure I would actually hate this wine if it was any other week of the year. I’ll never forget the taste of the smoked peas, I miss this taste already. Those were in be the snap pea salad with pancetta and mizuna. In addition we had the carrots with ginger oil, smoked mackerel toast, panisse with wagyu (ummm yummmm), mushrooms with fiddleheads and a preserved chestnut sauce ( a group favorite), and a grilled pork loin. I will be back to try the sausage. The room was gorgeous and everyone was nice. I forget how nice it is to eat outside of the city.
Breakfast
At Buck Hill Farms. Pancakes. Sausage. Wow loved this place. I don’t know if it is the pork or what but the 3 women working there had the most glowing skin. It is formally a maple syrup farm but they also have a breakfast place. Blueberry buttermilk pancakes, GF buckwheat pancakes, eggs, sausage, and dusty biscuits with maple butter. I say dusty with respect. What more do you need to be happy. I drank an iced coffee and it was so good. In the last 6-9 ish months I have been doing no coffee and in the last few weeks I have been excited and wanting to re-enter it into my sphere. Sleeping at Kate + Jeremy’s I feel so intensely rested.
We stopped by Solinsky’s meat market ( the best) and I got my favorite snack ever….Kabonosys. And they wrapped it like a present. You literally have to STOP me from eating it all.
A book I should’ve bought.
Now I am trying out beef tallow after two of my gorgeous friends ( Olivia + Darnell) suggested I use it. I got this big tub at First Bloom shop. So far my skin feels wonderful and I would like to rub this all over my body everyday.
Date night with Allison
We went to DubuHaus which I was soooo excited to go to. It was a pretty room, with so much homemade tofu. Generally, I want to eat more tofu! We got the short ribs and the pork + kimchi Sundubu with a side of their nutritious kettle rice. Plenty of leftovers. I definitely will go again but I also do just straight up love BCD Tofu with my whole heart. I am sure that on my death bed I will go out eating a bowl of Sundubu. Hurting my stomach with spiciness all the way to Heaven (or is it hell?). I love how the napkins and chopsticks were in a drawer at the end of the table.
For dessert Allison gave me a sea salt chocolate chip cookie from The Pastry Box which was maybe the best cookie I have ever had in my life….. I have yet to go there but now I know... I think I am entering a cookie era for myself. It was never something I desired but lately I have been craving them like crazy.
Post meal Drinkin
I have been making a blend of raspberry leaf and peppermint tea each day. I feel great when I do and this is my new hyper fixation. The rasberry leaf is good for cramping and general digestion if anyone is having issues with that.
ANYWAYS LOVE U ALL - Eat well. I am so grateful for all the wonderful things I am able to try and I wish that for everyone.
I wonder what you will cook this week. If you want any suggestions email me with what mood you are in and I will respond back to you back with a recipe to try out. :)
Love + Light,
Sakura
