HI Bunnies,
I have been a bit down, this will always effect my eating habits. I was also in my luteal phase, a deep desire for calm and trying to be nourished. But yes, I still ate lots and enjoyed my friends and life dearly.
Here is what I loved before going gf/df/sf + alc free for this week:
Strawberries, Rhubarb and Fluke
For a Laine’s lovely bridal shower at Il Buco Alimentari we had fluke with strawberries and basil. Everything at this meal was so good which is rare with large set menus, but I love this combo and want to make something like this at home or in a handroll.
Adventures
It was a walking weekend and on our way home we were soo hungry so we popped into this random place next to Procell called Pita Bar. And holy shit, I said I wasn’t hungry but then I wish I had just got my own plate because it was sooo good. This plate was the Arais, and I have to say this would be a perfect late night snack. Was absolutely surprised.
A bar, not for me
I used to live above this new trendy bar, Schmuck ( we sat on the Kitchen table side) . Maybe I need to try the other side ( the Living Room) version because it was cool inside and the staff was super fun and friendly but wow nothing hit at all. Maybe the chocolate mousse could be good but the drinks were actually too much for me. I think this is a place for novelty and for a fun adventure but I will not be popping in for a cocktail. My drink was muesli flavored, Alara’s was melon and cheese?, and Drew’s was a riff on a Paloma ( not bad). From this one experience it is like A plus for creativity… but I want to eat my food not drink it. But I respect anyone doing their thing strongly.
AT home
Chicken Marbella. I have done this in the past with couscous and turkey. but I just wanted something easy and cozy to make. What is better than olives and dates. With it I made schmaltzy potatoes. Drew came home a few weeks ago with shmaltz…I wondered silently, “ What will he actually use this for.” I love him, but you know how men always buy a new ingredient then it lives in the fridge or pantry until it no longer resembles itself. ;) Well I wasn’t going to allow that. Soooo I roasted potatoes in it with caramelized onions and I am so happy that I did that. I could’ve done with more crispiness.
Quick breakfast
Sesame Spelt Sourdough ( from elbow bread) with an egg inside. We smeared avocado around the edges so it was an egg in an avocado hole.
A week of steaks
Grilled steak. We had one of our first grill nights of the year. Citarella grass fed steaks - hit sooo hard. Had enough for leftovers. Please excuse this scary photo.
The Grill for a dear friend’s birthday. Let’s talk about their duck. Obviously their steak is amazing but the duck is a must have from now on. Always a perfect meal, never hits wrong. I have not been drinking and typically when I go out to dinner I will have a glass of something to go with it. I opted out and found that still sans vin I can enjoy a meal. That sounds pathetic to me to say out loud but it really is a different way of moving through the world.
Sunn’s
I saved the best for last. Alara and I had a 5pm dinner here, what a treat. Small menu (respect), and to the point. The banchan was amazing and so were both of the soups that we had. I could eat these soups everyday. Sunny is amazing. My tummy felt great, I felt nourished. No notes.
Love you bunnies,
Eat well, love hard,
Sakura
