Hey bun buns -
How are we doing today?
I didn’t eat out dinner once last week ( I think) and I am very proud of this.
We grilled on the roof.
I ate yogurt for dessert.
and quesadillas for lunch.
I made a batch of chicken soup.
and as you may have seen I has a salmon craving. So I made some salmon.
Beyond that here is what I LOVED:
I found a new store I am obsessed with. I love when I stumble across a new gem. it is called Live Live Organics in the East Village. I am unsure how I never found it before. More for snacks, specialty dried items and skincare. Beyond their products, I love their branding. It reminds me of being in middle school in a good way.
I did have one AB at this adorable tiki bar - thank you Nymphet Alumni + Biz for having me and Sonja. More fun bars please.
I started reading parts of this book. I will keep note of what my main takeaways are. I find it complicated now a days this contrast of constantly changing advice on what you are “suppose” to eat. I feel intuitively inclined and always enforce that in my recipes for you. But I think there is so much to learn and different way to be. Separately, I am also rereading The Four Agreements after my friends brought it up the other day. And I have to say it is making a current dent on my behavior.
I sat down and looked through Shichimi magazine I had bought years ago and forgot about. Individual photographs all held together - exploring recipes and foods through different photographers.
Other things liked:
My coworker made these dips and I brought AmyLu chicken meatballs ( this flavor is my new obsession). And this was a perfect lunch.
Quick recap of NOLA :
I went to New Orleans for the first time last year and tried too much food. This time I was calmer but still enjoyed some gems.
MUST go to Camellia Grill every time I go now. I didn’t even know I liked waffles, they were thin and crispy. The servers wore bow ties in the diner and everything was perfect.
Like I said last year - The carrot yogurt at Molly’s Rise and Shine hits so hard. So does their crispy rice salad.
A question I have is : Does anyone know if Ruby, the hibiscus water, has gone out of business? It is my favorite and I cannot find it anywhere now. Easy to make yourself but feeling very sad about this. When things like this happen I wonder if I was only 1 out of how many people enjoying this product. Was there a time that I was the only person in the world with it in their fridge? And then I think about my transition with Bagel Bunny. How people ask for it constantly but there are restrictions that I have put on it now in order to enjoy my own life more. I wonder what their breaking point with it was. I am sure with something like this it was all dependent on co-packers + distributers etc. and the bottom line. I will never forget I was shopping in Sahadi’s a few years back and I heard someone on their team bring samples to try to get it in the store. I could tell the buyer was not overly enthused. I turned around and commented “ OMG these are my favorites.” And I think they carried it after that or maybe they didn’t but after I said it the buyer was excited to talk more about it. And I am not sharing that to pat myself on my shoulders but I like to imagine us all impacting each others creations. And how just sharing what we love is important because it does make an difference. I wonder what will happen long term to our psyches in terms of trust with all of the instagram influencer posting - because even with an attempt at clarity my mind gets tricked with the constant influence.
Today along with my genius chef friend, Hannah, we will go scope out the new grain mill in Gowanus. I am very excited. Will try to share some snippets.
I am also on a mission in the next few months to find my favorite outdoor eateries in the city… who wants to join that adventure with me?
ENJOY YOURSELVES,
Sakura
