Hi Bunnies !
Right now I have some Jasmine rice in the rice cooker perfuming the whole kitchen. It is so cool to me that there is such a strong fragrance that comes with cooking a grain. With it, I have made a cabbage and white fish coconut curry, and a side of roasted beets. I drink my Ashwaganda tea from Furnace Creek Farms ( all-time fav) in a wine glass because that always makes life more festive.
There has been so much food consumed especially with my sister in town. Here is what I loved:
Crevette -
I have to say, thank god for a grand dining room. How special it feels to be in such a beautiful room (lit with candle sticks) that was clearly thoughtful but not snobbishly designed. As we walked to the space I could feel the warmth of the candles through the windows, shining onto 6th ave. This is a place I could comfortably eat at multiple times a week and never be bored, I still have much to try. I had one of their martinis - with a tarragon gin - and I enjoyed it so much, I love tarragon. I would like to try their house marg next time. I can’t stop thinking about th ecrispy potatoes and tuna. First bite, and the potatoes rang a bell in my head - I looked at my co-eaters, and I screamed “what does this remind you of.” Immediately they knew, it reminded me of the joys of a McDonald’s hash-brown (the best fast food treat). The crab agnolotti with tomato was a fucking dream- we almost didn’t order it but it was one of the best bites. Someone had said that dish was reminiscent of Torrisi but I thought it was better. I would def come just for a glass of wine with the chicken and of course. And the rhum cake is my perfect dessert. Would pass on the caesar salad, I will be trying the fennel salad next time. They use opinel knives, one of my preferences too. Thank you Jesse for kindly having us.
One of my NY Favorites
I don’t love calling anything my favorite - it’s like calling people your best friend. Best friend to me is a status category not a singular person. But Le Gigot is somewhere that l feel most comfortable, or where I would eat most often and would always be happy to go. Those qualities are rare nowadays. I have set friends up on blind dates here, it is a place that allows you to be present. You will never run into anyone you know (hopefully not after this post too) and the same 3 guys work there every time I come in. I had a garlic and mushroom soup ( perfect), Drew had the pork rubs (fucking yum), and we share the Poulet (served in a cast iron as many of their dishes are). They serve warm crusty bread with butter ( served at the proper temp.) It just feels honest and not overdone, maybe not the best chicken of my life - but I am not looking for that. I listened to the two women seated next to us, who were maybe 15 years older than me, discussing how their soul family cannot overlap with their romantic family, and I was curious to this thought. They ended their dinner with the fact that they’ve never found freedom in a romantic relationship. That made me kind of sad to hear.
Good Lunch - My IG feed keeps sending me pastas with a green sauce. I began to crave this so just made something random with leftover rice and grilled chicken I had from the night before. Blanch a handful of arugula and a bunch of cavolo nero ( center stem cut out) and put over ice. Then blend with olive oil, a clove of garlic, lemon juice, sheep milk yogurt (what I had or some cheese would be nice). Make sure it is super smooth. I heated the rice in the pan with butter and poured the sauce over. Perfect. Lots of black pepper and salt of course. Ate this on the roof and fell asleep on the bench on the first sunny day in a long time.
Speaking of salads,
Also went to Scarr’s with my sister and they still have a salad that I loveeeee - the vegan caesar salads (get with the chicken).
New Treats in my life
I am obsessed with these children’s fruit roll ups for when I feel like I want some candy.
Another one I tried last week is the Pressed Juice soft serve. How did no one tell me how yummy it is. I got açai with almond butter on top with some strawberries.
Otherwise I am featured in this issue of Local Optimist ! What a sweet team to work with - I truly can say I enjoyed their view on what I do and it was such a treat to be next to people that I love - like Chris at tart, who also substacks and makes an amazing product.

Do well,
